Author’s note: I wrote this poem (warning: I’m not that great at poetry, I mostly write prose) around a year and a half ago after struggling spiritually with the idea of perfection. We are perfect because of the perfect Lamb. Nothing we will do could ever make us perfect, but it is by Jesus’s sacrifice on the cross that we are made perfect and righteous. I hope you enjoy!!
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me. — 2 Corinthians 12:9
I long to stare into the mirror
And like what I see.
I long to never have to worry about looking behind me
But my past sins get me every time.
I long to live a life of constant perfection
But I fail daily,
But You remind me that You are stronger.
Stronger than my faults and fears,
Stronger than the sins of my past that keep me up at night,
Stronger than my imperfections.
And no matter how hard I try to live
Up to the unrealistic expectations I have built an idol of,
I will always fail
But with You, I am perfectly imperfect.
